A Weekend in Keda — The Perfect 2-Day Itinerary

Not everyone has a week to spend in the Adjara highlands. Most visitors have a weekend — two days, maybe a night and a half, squeezed between other plans in Batumi or on the way to somewhere else. That is enough. Here is how to use it well. --- Day 1 — Arrival and the Waterfall Circuit Morning: Leave Batumi The drive from Batumi to Village Akutsa takes about an hour. Leave in the morning to make the most of the day — the road itself, climbing alongside the Acharistskali River, is worth the trip. Midday: Waterfalls Stop at Dzenwmani Waterfall first — just a hundred metres from the road, an easy introduction to the region. Continue to Makhuntseti, the most spectacular of the three, where there is also a small market for honey and churchkhela. If time allows, add Merisi, the quietest of the three, with a small café at the trailhead. Afternoon: Arrive at Akutsa, Settle In Check into your room, cottage, or the camper. Take time on the terrace — the view across the valley is, for most guests, the moment the trip actually begins. Evening: Traditional Dinner Eat a home-cooked Adjarian dinner, or better, join a culinary masterclass and make it yourself. Borano, sinori, achma-khachapuri — two to three hours in the kitchen, followed by the meal you made. --- Day 2 — Culture, Wine, and the Mountains Morning: Traditional Breakfast Start with a proper Adjarian breakfast on the terrace — fresh bread, homemade cheese, honey, eggs, seasonal fruit. Mid-Morning: History and Craft Walk to the Akutsa Mosque, 150 metres from the guesthouse — a wooden structure from the late medieval period, one of the finest examples of its kind still standing. If you have transport, add Kaviani Fortress (6km) or the Keda Historical Museum (3km). Midday: Beekeeping or Wine Choose one: visit the working beehives on the property for a short beekeeping masterclass, or drive to the Keda Wine Factory to taste wines made from grape varieties you will not find anywhere else in Georgia. Afternoon: One Last View If you have a few more hours before heading back to Batumi, take the drive partway toward Goderdzi Pass — even reaching the lower sections gives a sense of the scale of these mountains. Otherwise, spend the time on the terrace. It is, often, the thing people most want to do with their last hour.
